Throughout her career, she has made a lasting impact in a variety of roles, from educator to assistant principal, in schools across Melbourne, Australia.

Maria is the author of the beloved Perky Panda series, which sparks creativity, fosters a love of learning, and helps children build confidence through engaging stories. Her work emphasizes the importance of emotional well-being, positive mindset, and literacy development, helping young readers thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Maria has received numerous accolades for her contributions to education and writing, including the 2024 New York City Big Book Award Distinguished Favorite and 2025 Distinguished Favorite Independent Press Award. 

She has also shared her expertise at prestigious events like the World Literacy Summit at Oxford University in 2023 and the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services conference in Australia and New Zealand 2024. 

Maria is honoured to be nominated and a finalist of the World Literacy Awards for her contribution to Literacy by an individual.

Maria La Selva is returning to Oxford University in 2025 where she will be presenting how emotional literacy can improve the mental health concerns of children's cognitive, social and emotional wellbeing.
